Chisinau International Marathon needs pacemakers for target time: 3:00, 3:30, 3:45, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30, 4:45, 5:00, 6:00 (distance 42 km). If You are a prepared athlete, have a great experience in long-distance running, are ready to be the group leader and lead the runners, register by completing this form. For pacemakers the participation in marathon is for free!
Surely everybody interested in running, have heard and know the concept of “pacemaker”. Unofficially pacemakers exist as long as running exists. But as a separate speciality, “pacemaker” appeared not so long ago – in 80-s – 20th century.
Now, without them does not get along any major running competition, both for middle and long distances. And of course, without pacemakers is impossible to imagine a major marathon.
So, who are pacemakers, sometimes colloquially called “rabbits”? They are professional experienced runners, which have leading positions in the race and set the pace for the other participants, which tend to reach a certain result.
On international marathons in which participate runners of different level of training, pacemakers are divided in groups, depending on finish time (for example, 3:00, 3:30, 4:00). Then the athletes can orientate on pace and correlate their speed with the expected result. Pacemakers dress bright, to stand out of the crowd and carry attention-grabbing signs, often toy balloons with notation of target result.
